The Valid-Info project designs the skills of the intercultural mediator and the street operator in order to have a clear idea of the dimension of non-formal and informal learning within these professions.
The intercultural mediator is an expert professional who acts to support and integrate foreign individuals belonging to different ethnic groups, operating on 3 levels: 1) the individual level, promoting the identities of immigrants and favoring their respect; 2) the organizational level in which the mediator mobilizes private and public local institutions and improves their ability to network and to cross-check the questions and offers; 3) the social level: with the promotion of education on effective rights and a new social policy based on solidarity.
The street worker, on the other hand, is a social worker who takes care of excluded groups working in the client’s environment. His duties focus mainly on: – providing people not covered by the social assistance system with health information, legal questions and access to social services; organize and support customers, possibly creating a relationship based on trust; prevent the deterioration of life and health of the client.
